Ting is a highly experienced and qualified music teacher. He studied a bachelor of music at university and has taught guitar at a variety of primary schools, high schools and private schools. Not every private music teacher has a formal qualification in music and have taught at school before.
According to the Victorian Music Teachers' Association (VMTA)
A fully accredited Music Teacher must:
1) Have taught music for at least 3 years
2) Have completed practical music in at least Grade 8 (AMEB or equivalent)
3) Have completed an approved tertiary music course in university

For adults, it is never too old or too late to start learning the guitar. For children, grade 2 at around 7 to 8 years old is a good age to start guitar. However every child is unique, some might be able to start at younger age. Alternately children younger than 6 can try the ukulele before learning the guitar. Ting also teaches the ukulele.
